Michael Allstead (contemporary) - "Four Seasons" Buckle Model On Petrified Wood

I am still shocked that I actually won this piece, and delighted that I could add this to my collection! While not very large, this bronze is very highly detailed and is very beautiful. I believe that this is the artist's sales model for a belt buckle designed to be made in a limited run of 100 (so far about a dozen have been made). Depicted are four handsome Indian heads, each turned to slightly different angles, representing the four seasons of the year. The bronze does not have the actual buckle hardware on it, being mounted permanently to a thin slice of rich red petrified wood. There is a paper label glued to the back that describes the piece and the production run and gives the artist's contact information as well as a loop for hanging. Mr. Allstead maintains a web site (address at right), but it looks like he's no longer sculpting. His studio is in Santa Fe, NM. I plan to contact him soon to learn more about this lovely sculptural work.

Edit: I had a very nice conversation with Mr. Allstead today. He's a very nice man and wonderful to chat with. He told me that the edition is still open (given there are plenty to go before the edition is closed, your chances are pretty good of getting one) and is available as either a belt buckle or a wall hanging, whichever you'd prefer. He still has the molds. :) Spring is on the left, the most decorated, winter next to him, then fall and summer to the right. He gave me the location of his signature and edition numbers, so I now know that mine is number 6 of an eventual 100. If you're interested in having one for yourself, give him a call!
