I bought this knowing nothing of the artist or timeframe when this was created. After a fair amount of research, I’m still in the dark. All I know is what is written on the back of the bronze, the title, the artist's name and that it is number 1 of an expected edition of 24. Still in all, it’s a lovely piece.
Depicted here is a full-figure bronze of a young Sioux warrior. He is standing erect but barefoot and relaxed on a bluff, his hands down by his side, a tomahawk is gripped in his right hand. His face upturned to the sky, his long hair loose around his shoulders. His eyes are closed and his mouth is open, perhaps singing or chanting his prayer. The warrior is wearing nothing save a simple headband and a plain loincloth which is styled to look like buckskin, though it could be wrinkled cloth. A knife in a sheath hangs on his left hip. The entire sculpture is highly detailed and beautifully rendered. Overall it's a powerful image of an exercise in personal spirituality.
If someone out there knows more about this artist or sculpture, please let me know!
These temporary images are from the auction house that sold this bronze to me. I'll replace them as soon as I take new ones. Enjoy!
